You Have an Author Hiding Within You.

When I tell people I have written a book most people say, “I could never do that” or “I wish I could write a book”.

For years I had those same thoughts.

I loved to read and was a frequent visitor to the library. Once I had exhausted all the books by one author I would look for another author.

In school I waded through basic English but it was not my favorite subject. I would rather study math or history or physics.

I dreaded taking English my senior year of High School as I knew it would be a very involved study of sentence structures and how to diagram them.

Karma stepped in....

 Mr. Morris was my teacher.

He was in charge of the Drama department and he saved me from the dreaded subject.

We spent the year putting on plays in class. Which was educational and enjoyable.

Later in life I would have ideas for books and would spend hours thinking about the story. But I never wrote anything on paper. It was the lingering idea that I could not write that got in the way.

One day I wrote down my ideas. (This was before the days of computers) It was only a few pages long and it shifted my ideas about writing.

After that I would write down the ideas I had as they came to me. Sometimes it would only be a paragraph long but I felt good having written it down.

I had a small collection of pages after a few years but never really saw it going beyond that.

As I was reading through them one day I was inspired to add to what I had already written. When I was done it was a complete story. Now this was only about six pages but I had actually written a short story.

A few years went by before I had another inspiration and expanded one of my ideas into the first chapter of a book. I would work on the story off and on until I had a complete book.

Now having completed four other books I find the idea of writing a book to be an achievable goal.

My suggestion for aspiring writers is to put your ideas down on paper or a word document. Once you have done that I think you will see the possibilities ahead of you..

Take the first step and start writing.
